Short-Term Emergency Protection Tips

Have a written plan of action for your pet(s) to be prepared for unforeseen emergencies and/or disasters.  Your written plan should include immediate care plans for your pet(s), evacuation plans in the event of a natural disaster and your completed "Pet Care Paperwork. Keep your written plan in a notebook and place it in a location that is easily accessible. Download our sample plan below to get you started or click on the picture.

Download and complete our "Pet Care Paperwork" for your pets below (or click on the picture) and appoint a caregiver who can immediately take & care for your pets short-term in the event of a personal emergency to the pet parent resulting in hospitalization, or for the pet parent to be away from home for an extended period of time.

Prepare a "Grab & Go" bag for your pet(s) in the event of a natural disaster that contains your "Pet Care Paperwork"  and the items listed on the downloadable checklist below.   Ready.gov also publishes on their website a pet disaster planning flyer which is included in the downloads below.  You can also click on the picture to access checklists.

No need to pay for a fancy expensive first-aid kit for your pet(s).  Download the checklist below (or click on the picture) and put together your own kit.

Download these blank stickers.  They can be printed using Avery large square stickers product 22806.  Place completed stickers on exterior doors to alert responders that you have pet(s) inside your home that may need to be rescued.  Stickers can also be accessed by clicking on the picture.

Prepare an "Animal Alert Card" that you carry in your wallet and/or on your cell phone to alert responders in the event of an emergency that you have pet(s) at home that need to be cared for.  These blank cards can be printed using Avery template 28877.  Download the template below (or click on the picture).

• Edible Hazards - foods that are toxic to your fur mate;
• Toxic plants - garden plants that will harm your tail waggers
• Medications that your pet gets into that may lead to emergency CPR procedures
